Enviromental Policy

We conduct our business in a way that is safe for our employees, our customers, our neighbours, and the environment. We comply with recognised international, national and industry regulations and standards. We promote environmental awareness aboard our ships and within the shore organisation so that operations are carried out by the most environmentally friendly means practicable. We aim to reduce the environmental impact of our operations, and reduce the consumption of energy and resources by our operations ashore and afloat. We ensure that significant environmental aspects of goods and services purchased are monitored and requirements are communicated to suppliers and contractors.

There is a commitment from the highest level of company management for continual improvement of the Environmental Management System by implementation, feedback and corrective action identified during management reviews.

Stolt Tankers is ISO 14001 certified, which gives customers added confidence that the company is not only handling all of its waste streams appropriately, but also constantly striving to do better. The International Organization for Standardization defines ISO 14001 as an “environmental management system” designed “to reduce the environmental footprint of a business and to decrease the pollution and waste a business produces.” ISO 14001 helps “an organisation to develop an environmental policy, establish objectives and processes to achieve the policy commitments, take action as needed to improve its performance, and demonstrate conformity of the system to the requirements” set forth by the standard.

In accordance with these principles, we:

  • identify environmental issues and determine areas of significant impact;
  • identify the relevant regulatory requirements;
  • identify priorities and set environmental objectives and targets;
  • establish a structure and programme to implement our policy and achieve its objectives;
  • carry out planning, control, monitoring, corrective action, auditing and review activities to ensure policy compliance and that our Environmental Management System remains relevant;
  • adapt to changing circumstances;
  • ensure that environmental protection equipment on our ships operates as certified;
  • ensure shipboard operations are carried out in accordance with Stolt Tankers procedures and MARPOL and Port State regulations;
  • recognise environmental protection and management as one of our highest priorities and that every effort must be made to conserve and protect the environment from marine, atmospheric and other forms of pollution, including office-based waste; and,
  • maintain a policy of no pollutants into the sea, on any ship, at any time
