Stolt-Nielsen Gas (SNG) focuses on the development of opportunities in the global market for the transportation of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Founded in 2007, SNG and its partners have built a growing fleet of very large gas carriers (VLGCs) through mergers and by acquiring attractively priced second-hand tonnage. Avance Gas Holding Ltd., in which Stolt-Nielsen Gas shares equal ownership with Sungas Holdings Ltd. and Transpetrol Shipping Ltd., owns eight VLGCs. The Avance Gas fleet trades in the spot market, primarily loading in the Middle East for destinations mainly in Asia. Stolt-Nielsen Gas is also currently exploring opportunities in the terminal market for both LPG and LNG, working in close cooperation with Stolthaven Terminals.
The eight-ship VLGC fleet is fully owned and operated by Avance Gas. The company‘s first LPG carrier, Stolt Avance, a 2003-built VLGC with a capacity of 82,500 cbm, was acquired in 2010. Later that year, SNG merged with Sungas, with both parties becoming equal owners of Avance Gas. Sungas added three VLGCs to the Avance Gas fleet: Iris Glory, Thetis Glory and Venus Glory, all built in 2008, each with a cargo capacity of 83,700 cbm. In 2012, Avance Gas welcomed a new equal partner, Transpetrol, which added two VLGCs to the fleet, Prospect and Progress, both built in 2009 with a cargo capacity of 82,440 cbm. Shortly thereafter, Avance Gas acquired two more VLGCs, Providence and Promise, built in 2008 and 2009, respectively, each with a capacity of 83,800 cbm.
