Why Bio Treatment?
Biological treatment of wastewater has long been recognised as the responsible choice in the chemical industry. The process utilises bacteria and other microorganisms to naturally degrade organic contaminants, thus resulting in a reduction in chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand (BOD) in the resulting effluent. Organic contaminants are transformed into harmless compounds, rather than shifting the pollution problem. Biological treatment also requires fewer chemicals than physical or chemical treatment.
Stolthaven Houston’s biological treatment plant is recognised as a point source discharge and, as such, is stringently regulated to ensure:
- Prevention of water pollution
- Protection of human and animal health
- Prevention of dissolved oxygen depletion in water
All wastewater treated at Stolthaven Houston is monitored throughout the handling process to ensure all regulatory and performance requirements are met.
