This year, Stolt Sea Farm celebrates its 50th anniversary having successfully built a global presence and become a leader in its sector.
During its 50-year history, Stolt Sea Farm has been dedicated to cultivating seafood under the fundamental principles that have set its course since the very beginning: sustainability, innovation and commitment to the environment and people.
- The company was established in Norway in 1972 and now has operations in five countries.
- 2022 will be a year of celebrations to commemorate the success of the company, a leader in its sector.
- Sustainability is at the heart of the company's strategy, which focuses on quality seafood production that respects and protects the environment.
In this milestone year, celebrations – such as ‘open door days’ at selected sea farms – are planned with all those who have made it possible for the company to reach half a century of operations.

Stolt Sea Farm was founded in 1972 in Norway, where it quickly became the leading supplier of juvenile salmon to the emerging salmon industry. From there, it expanded its production lines to include other species such as sea bream, sea bass, sturgeon, caviar, tuna and what are now the company’s two main products, turbot and sole. By 2007,Stolt Sea Farm had reached an annual turbot production capacity of 4,000 tonnes, consolidating its position as the market leader.
Stolt Sea Farm remains the leading producer of sustainably farmed turbot and sole, with annual production capacities of 5,700 tonnes of turbot and 1,570 tonnes of sole.
Stolt Sea Farm’s headquarters are in Santiago de Compostela (Galicia, Spain) and it has production facilities in Spain, Portugal, Iceland, Norway and France, which enable it to pursue its global growth strategy.
Sustainability is at the heart of Stolt Sea Farm’s business strategy, day-to-day operations and expansion plans for the future. The company's three sustainability commitments are: producing responsibly farmed healthy seafood; guaranteeing the traceability of these products and the sustainable origin of its feed; and respecting workers, local communities and the environment.
