Stolthaven Terminals’ UK jetty upgrade set to improve services to customers

Stolthaven Terminals' major jetty upgrade at its Dagenham facility in the UK is nearing completion.

Work on the new jetty began in January 2022 to improve discharge rates and turnaround times for vessels, provide new and upgraded infrastructure, enhance safety and reduce environmental impact and, ultimately, deliver a superior service to customers.

The main jetty structure – the jetty approach and jetty head/loading platform with overhead pipe racks and breasting and mooring structures – were completed in October 2023. More than 50% of the mechanical works, including larger diameter pipelines, have already been commissioned with the remaining mechanical and electrical works expected to be finalised in the first quarter of this year.

Stolthaven Dagenham's General Manager, Steve Walker, said: "This is a major milestone for Dagenham and for Stolthaven Terminals. It has been a great team effort to coordinate this project and keep the berth operational for our customers during these complex works."

The new jetty has been constructed over the old structure, which was built in the 1900s and originally used to fit-out war vessels. It was named the Thunderer Jetty after the HMS Thunderer, the last major warship built on the Thames, which was fitted out here.

During construction of the new jetty, Stolthaven Dagenham recycled approximately 50 tonnes of timber which were removed from the decommissioned jetty and donated to projects including a local skate park upgrade and benches for a hospital garden.

Last year, Stolthaven Terminals also announced plans to partner with cooking oil supplier and collector, Olleco, to build a state-of-the-art used cooking oil (UCO) processing plant at the Dagenham facility.
